I was only speaking to the fact the the choice of a Baby Bell to give a $1.5 billion contract to NORTEL...this is a big deal...the cash itself is not a big deal in the long run for this company...no doubt about it...and I too got my shares directly from the spinoff.
BUT...SBC choosing Nortel could be a turning point in terms of the 'expected' fact that in the past these companies have shown a definative preference towards LU...and not other competitors.
I surely hope that I pointing out something that will NOT be a negative factor in the future...LU has got a LOT going for it...and I hope to be there for the whole enchilada.

<<That's what makes me a little irritable I guess when people begin to question the day to day minor fluctuations and question or speculate the near term movements. To be perfectly honest, even though I watch, I don't care. This company is a long term core holding in my portfolio and I hope my children appreciate it one day. >>

With thinking like that, you should just follow the LU: Long-Term Prospects thread <g>

<when people begin to question the day to day minor fluctuations and question or speculate the near term movement>

Phil,

I personally appreciate every post, every opinion and every tidbit of news. I feel I'm fully capable of filtering this information for my own use. While I own LU long I also trade options on it, so short term fluctuations and daily news events ARE important.

There is a group of like-minded folks to you that started a thread so they wouldn't have to read chatter they weren't interested in. You might want to check it out. Or you may want to check out The Motley Fool, where discussion of any strategy but buy and hold for life is frowned upon.

Best of luck -
