Hmmph. They're just a block from me. Anyone have any messages for me to drop off there?

David,

One factor for the low market share figures is that last year cloners were eating into Apples market share figures.

Apples net and gross margins are indeed moderate, but if you look at the trend during the last year or so it is up, up. And Apple continues to look better each month. Management has made some interesting decisions. Some of their decisions were in err possibly but all in all most seem to be well considered at the least. As a Mac user (I use NT also), I feel that in general Mac products AND prices have improved a lot. I also feel that they are well positioned for a rebound due to these factors:

1) Rhapsody
2) Way better chips, cheaper, faster, cooler, smaller
3) Way better management
4) Agressive advertising
5) Y2K problems on other platforms, (negligible on Macs)
6) Microsoft and Intel legal battles continue to mount
7) Cutthroat margins on Wintel boxes will continue to erode quality
8) Low priced computer glut, Macs still appeal to power users
9) Open GL now on Macs
10) Rhapsody will run on Merced

Granted, over the short run NT is still a juggernaut, but that doesn't mean that Apple can't do well over the short run. Over the long run Rhapsody has distinct promise and looks to be introduced at a very advantageous time ie. Y2K.
