Rrufff - I am not a shorter so am not positive of my answer. I would check with your broker, if I were you. To the best of my knowledge shares in a stock can be borrowed unless shareholders take physical possession of your certificates. However, unless the shareholders more or less control the float, and know that the closely held shares are not apt to get sold or come back onto the market, it is kinda useless to call for your certificates. I mean, it is great, and certainly helps the cause, but unless you have one H*** of a holding, it is a drop in the bucket.

...and then there are undeclared short positions, which I think is illegal? but goes on anyway.
