ATLANTA--(BUSINESS WIRE)--June 8, 1998--

--OEM Agreement provides AFC with SONET/SDH capabilities,

enables provision of High Capacity Business Access solutions, Broadens PFS Market Penetration --

At SuperComm this week -- Positron Fiber Systems Corporation (PFS) announced that it has signed an original equipment manufacturer (OEM) agreement with Advanced Fibre Communications, Inc.(R) (AFC) AFCI , which will enable AFC to integrate the Positron OSIRIS(TM) Broadband Access Multiplexer family into its access product line which includes the UMC 1000(R) 3GDLC(TM). The products will be marketed under AFC's label as the AFC ANSR(TM) System.

"As local access networks worldwide become increasingly fiber-based, the demand for SONET and SDH technology in premier loop-access platforms such as AFC's UMC1000 platform is rapidly increasing" said Andrew Knott, PFS' Vice President of Sales and Marketing. "This agreement provides AFC with an integrated SONET and SDH solution allowing them to transport their wide range of access services (POTS, Data, xDSL based LAN delivery solutions, etc.) over highly resilient SONET or SDH based access rings and underscores PFS' continuing commitment to penetration of worldwide telecommunications markets through OEM partnerships."

"Our agreement with PFS provides our customer base with an integrated product solution for a number of SONET-based applications," said Gerry Sawchuk, Senior Manager of Product Line Management, at AFC. "It allows the UMC 1000 to leverage its 3GDLC(TM) capabilities with delivery of xDSL and Frame Relay/ATM data services to both business and residential users across SONET/SDH transport networks."

"The key to our "PFS Enhanced" OEM Partner strategy is to provide PFS Technology with access to new markets by integration of our products into major telecommunications manufacturers' solutions, enhancing both our horizontal and vertical market penetration. This exciting new relationship with AFC is a perfect example of this approach. Through its agreement with AFC, PFS now has a world class channel for our technology into the rapidly expanding NGDLC (Next Generation Digital Loop Carrier) marketplace as well as significantly enhancing our distribution in the US Independent Telephone Company and international marketplaces" added Knott.
