IDT Introduces Family of Low-Cost, Full-Function ABR SAR
Controllers

New PCI-Compliant Family of Single-Chip ATM SARs Targeted for Telecom, Datacom
and xDSL Applications

SANTA CLARA, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--May 21, 1998--IDT (NASDAQ: IDTI - news) today
introduced low-cost, single-chip segmentation and reassembly (SAR) controllers with integrated Available Bit Rate
(ABR) functionality. These ABR SARs, targeted for up to 155-Mbps Asynchronous Transfer Mode (ATM)
networks, enhance the company's widely accepted network product offerings. The new family of full-function
SARs includes the IDT77252 and IDT77222, which will also be available later this year in 3.3-volt/5-volt tolerant
versions. The new family fully supports the PCI 2.1 specifications and is designed to support PC'98 specifications,
providing plug-and-play solutions for Windows(R)-based networking applications.

With the addition of the ABR service category, IDT's SAR controller family now supports all industry-standard
traffic-management services. The ABR functionality allows users to obtain maximum utilization of network
bandwidth. IDT's implementation of ABR provides a unique level of flexibility by enabling bandwidth optimization
per each virtual circuit, compared to the industry standard, which optimizes bandwidth per chip. Therefore, the
user can specify the shaping required on a per-virtual-circuit basis, allowing tailoring of the ABR response to the
individual characteristics of the users' network and connection requirements.

''As a leader in the ATM device market, IDT is committed to offering complete solutions for ATM network
interface cards, switches and emerging xDSL applications,'' stated Carl Hagenmaier, director of network products
division for IDT. ''Today's announcement upholds this commitment by rounding out our ATM SAR product
portfolio to include full support for all ATM service categories. Our feature-rich controllers will enable our
customers to deliver high-performance, low-cost network interface cards that should further accelerate the growth
of ATM in networking environments.''

Single-Chip Solution Reduces Overall System Cost

The IDT77252 and IDT77222 support ATM Adaptation Layer (AAL) types 0, 3/4 and 5, and raw cell formats
for Constant Bit Rate (CBR), Variable Bit Rate (VBR), Unassigned Bit Rate (UBR) and ABR. The devices
perform both the AAL SAR function and the ATM-layer protocol function. The low-cost single-chip solution also
reduces overall system cost by eliminating the need for a front-end processor, as well as any glue logic for
interfacing with UTOPIA-compliant ATM PHY devices. The devices support ATM Forum standards UNI 3.1
and TM 4.0.

The IDT77252 and IDT77222 provide a complete 33-MHz PCI interface, and the IDT77252 allows up to 16K
open-transmit and receive connections. The IDT77222 supports only 256 connections, which reduces the local
memory requirements. This solution is ideal for the fast-emerging, cost-conscious xDSL market that requires fewer
virtual circuits. Additionally, IDT is leading the market in ATM SARs by providing the industry's first
3.3-volt/5-volt tolerant ABR SARs for emerging low-power applications.

A full range of support is available for the new IDT77252, IDT77222 and the existing IDT77211 SAR controllers,
including reference designs, evaluation boards and software for VxWorks(R), Windows and WindowsNT(R).

Pricing and Availability

Pricing for the IDT77252 is $41 each in 10,000-piece quantities, and for the IDT77222 is $20 each in
10,000-piece quantities. The IDT77252 is currently sampling, and the IDT77222 will be sampling in June 1998.
Both devices are scheduled for production in Q3CY98. The 3.3-volt/5-volt tolerant versions also will be available
in Q3CY98.
