Hi NeuroInvestment: As a Physical Therapist for 13 years, I do not have the perspective of the "beta amygdaloidosis" or post synaptic "cholinesterases". I have spent years working "on" an Alzheimer's unit and have quite a few biases based on controlled studies and personal observation. By coincidence, I have a sister who has a Phd in "Geriatrics" and we recently discussed these issues. How do you keep Leo from peeing in the trash can? How do you stop Jim from taking a dump in his cereal bowl? How do you stop Helena from running over people in her wheelchair? How do you stop Manny from climbing the fence and wandering off? Gravity, Repetition, Movement, Stimulation, Motivation,Mentation, ect. all effect memory in this patient population. IMO,it's not about post-synaptic receptors, or micro-duration acid base balance. It's about repetition, stimulation, emotionally charged performance of activities. Geeze....I can improve a patients performance just by getting them emotionally charged and stimulating the entire neuronal activity of the cortex. It's about neuronal Overflow and heightened stimulation. I can improve performance just on repetition, I can improve performance just by gravity and muscle re-education. I can improve performance just by neuronal overflow from a multiplicity of senses. I can improve performance just by age issues alone. How do we know what kind of Paint "Leo" sniffed for 25 years? How are post synaptic receptors going to improve with all of this damage. It's not about acid base issues or post synaptic receptors. IMO, way to many generalizations here. We are going from Cortex neurons and making generalizations about primary motor neurons i.e. we are going from Central nervous system and making generalizations to Peripheral nervous system. These press releases appear to be making generalizations about motor neuron Track issues,SCI injury issues, cortex neuron issues, peripheral nervous system issues, central nervous system issues, amyotrophic lateral sclerosis issues, and the claims are just too broad and far reaching.... I would love to be proved wrong. but in this era of Cost cutting, cost containment, HMO Monster Medicine...I am very skeptical...
