Barry. Re: Microsoft's future. Thanx for sharing that article. Couple of points:

1) The article says, For more than two years, Microsoft has sought to translate its dominance of the PC market into control of gateways to the Internet." I read this a lot but frankly, I don't agree. It seems to me that MSFT is more concerned about being outflanked and made irrelevant. Hence the investment in Web TV. IMHO the reason Bill Gates et al are acting paranoid is that they have real enemies. (don't own MSFT stock, so their not goring my ox.)

I use the internet a lot and use both netscape and IE. It makes no difference to me which I use.

2) Java vs. MSFT. The idea that, "Java represents a threat to Microsoft because programs written in Java can run on different kinds of machines" also seems a bit exaggerated. Practically speaking who would buy a computer without the capability of using at least some Windows-based programs. It just doesn't seem likely.

3) Having computers that, "see, listen, and learn" is a lovely idea. In our lifetime computers will take on more and more of the left brain function.

4) The computer growing from "tool" to "partner or collaborator" in work supports this idea.

Thanx again for the article.
