FWIW.....Was in Office Max yesterday.....IOM products had about 48 feet of total space (12 feet X 4 shelves).....Full range of drives and
media. Competing products on display.....ONE Super Disk.

Yesterday's mail brought 24-page color advertising publication from some consumer electronics chain. It featured only one lap-top, Fujitsu's LifeBook with ZIP built in.....the ad copy led with praise for the ZIP feature.

Thanks for the info on the Informationweek article. Overall a balanced assessment.

One error I believe is the following: "The market for high-capacity diskettes should go from about 8.1 million units shipped in 1997 to more than 184 million units by 2002, according to Dataquest. The overall market, which includes other storage technologies such as removable hard drives, should easily top 200 million units by 2002."

My take is that they meant to state "high capacity diskette drives" since 8.1 million is much more in line with drive sales than with diskette sales. Projecting a market increase of 8.1 million to 184 million is presents a pretty significant opportunity for growth. To quote the last paragraph of the article "The incessant demand for portable storage seems likely to set things right for the suppliers."
