>>>Is 4.0 open source? I'm confused.<<<

When you get confused I get cautious, bearded one.

I believe that the version 5.0 is open source now, except for the cryptography part, which would be illegal to publish. 4.x is the old version, 5.0 is the one coming up, so that's what folks are working on. However, some of those bug fixes appear to have percolated to version 4.05, which I have. Lots less crashes, better memory handling.

(Naturally, folks in other countries have already forged ahead and created a new crypto module which due to the stupidity of the government folks involved in crypto policy we will now be buying from them, rather than the other way around. They have published the source for that module. Australians, Koreans, and other have done this I think.)

developer.netscape.com has the communicator source code. You can sign up for the developer program and download the source code. Folks all over are doing this and the bug fixes are flying. The Mozilla mail client source has also been published.
