Mr. Farooqui:

Why do muslims still live in India if they overwhelmingly voted for a separate state? Did the Hindus force them to stay? Who has more freedom, the Indian or Pakistani Muslims?

The Pakistanis will soon wake up from their deep sleep and realize what is good for them, or they will continue begging and depending on American aid.

Zamir:

If the British did not raise the issue of a separate country out of the British India, the question of Pakistan would not arise. Jinnah was for one India. But, the British and the West offered carrots. Jinnah, as a strong leader, could arouse passions of Muslims either way. Even today, the West is not willing to accept the idea of a strong and prosperous Indian subcontinent. They want to continue to sell arms to Pakistan. Pakistan spends 6.5% of GNP on defense as opposed to India's 2.4%. The West is giving nothing free to Pakistan; the US has not even returned Pakistan's money for the F16's.

I think, at least now, Pakistani rulers should realize that India is not their enemy; it is the West that is against the development of the region.

Zamir:

Great leaders always arouse the passion of people for good causes to attain a better long-term future for the people.

Wouldn't the undivided India have been more prosperous today than India+Pakistan+Bangladesh combined?

On the issue of political freedom too, Muslims in Pakistan and Bangladesh would have gotten more privilege in an undivided India. Don't jump into comparing Indian Muslims and Hindus because most Muslims were unprivileged Hindus before they changed their religion.
A secular India even has separate civil codes for Muslims. Can you ask for that kind of treatment in a free country like the USA?
