BEIJING (CEIS) -- TOSHITA CORP. OF JAPAN AND WARNER BROTHERS PICTURE INC. OF THE UNITED STATES, TWO LEADING DIGITAL VIDEO PRODUCT MANUFACTURERS IN THE WORLD, HAVE TIED UP WITH THE SHINCO ELECTRONICS GROUP OF CHINA TO EXPAND THE CHINESE DVD MARKET.

THE JIANGSU-BASED SHINCO ELECTRONICS GROUP, ONE OF CHINAS TOP 100 ELECTRONICS MANUFACTURERS, IS THE LARGEST VCD PLAYER PRODUCER AND SELLER IN THE COUNTRY. TOSHIBA CORP. HAS CLINCHED ONE-THIRD OF THE WORLD DVD PRODUCT MARKET.

COOPERATION BETWEEN TOSHIBA AND SHINCO WILL BE PHASED IN, SAID TOSHITA. IT MAY INVOLVE THE MANUFACTURING OF DVD PRODUCTS, DEVELOPMENT OF DVD PLAYER SOFTWARE, FORMULATION OF DVD PRODUCTION STANDARDS AND PATTERNS, AND ANTI-PIRACY TECHNOLOGY.

TOSHIBA CORP. IS A LATER COMER ON THE CHINESE DVD MARKET. LURED BY THE THRIVING CHINESE VCD PLAYER MARKET, WHICH REPORTS AN ANNUAL SALES OF MORE THAN 10 MILLION SETS, TOSHIBA HAS TO CHANGE ITS PLAN.

THE DEMAND FOR DVD PLAYERS ON THE CHINESE AND ASIAN MARKET MAY EXCCEED THAT OF JAPAN, PREDICTED TOSHIBA.

WARNER INC., ONE OF THE LARGEST FILM PRODUCERS IN THE WORLD, SAID THAT IT WILL PAY MOST ATTENTION TO THE GREAT DEMAND FOR DVDS IN CHINA. WARNER HAS PLAYED A SIGNIFICANT ROLE IN THE COOPERATION BETWEEN FILM AND VIDEO INDUSTRIES AND IN PROVIDING COPYRIGHT OF VCDS.

Here's a little more on Sega's next machine; If they have chosen all these components the rest may be decided too?

NEC Electronics Inc. confirmed reports that its PowerVR graphics chip architecture has been chosen by Sega Enterprises Ltd.'s next-generation video game console, code-named "Katana." The console will be powered by a Hitachi SH-4 processor and a Yamaha sound chip, according to NEC.
