If you believe everyone will continue to buy computers at the same horid pace..

and all these companies will NOT AFFECT DELL by lowing prices to clear inventory than.... I guess you will sleep well.

I don't have a position, I don't want a position, I'm just stating what the market sees right now.

If the other guys hurt, DELL *WILL* eventually hurt. A computer is a computer and if the price is right they will buy from Compaq, IBM, HWP, etc.. that's how you UNSTUFF a channel etc..

This is a commodity business and the only players that really make out when something like this happens if SOFTWARE.

Good luck!

Aloha

Aloha Aloha, over simplifying a situation may help your point of view but not get at
the truth.

1. Compaq has a stuffed channel
2. HWP has a stuffed channel
3. Intel reports chips sales slowing (due to CPQ,HWP clearing inventory)
4. Dell has a very good quarter

Yes I see it! Dell is rocking and gaining market share.

1&2:
A CPQ/HWP "stuffed channel" does *NOT* help dell. It screws them up
(albeit less than it screws up CPQ and HWP). It leads to a fall in
ASP since all of these companies are (rightfully) mindless about
maintaining market share.

3: How do you know its only because of CPQ/HWP. Perhaps dell's growth
is shrinking too?

4: Grant you that. Good, even gread but NOT stellar!(unlike its stock
price which IS stellar).

I am not so sure dell will keep gaining market share. hwp managed to increase
units sold by 70% with pc growth rate at 15%? Alarm-bell time for
dell(methinks...).
