Another boring quarter. 40-45% top and bottom line growth, improving margins which show that the competitive landscape continues to favor WIND, a preferred vendor deal with Lucent, an upgrade to Strong Buy from DAIN WESSELS.

I think Allen is right. When we look back a couple years from now, we'll say April/May 1998 was a great buying opportunity.

Regards,
Jason

Operating Profit Up 63% Over First Quarter of Previous Year

ALAMEDA, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--May 21, 1998--Wind River Systems, Inc. (NASDAQ:WIND - news), the leading provider of real-time operating systems,
integrated software development tools and engineering services for embedded applications, reported operating results for the first quarter of fiscal year 1999 ended April
30, 1998.

Total revenues for the first quarter were $26.4 million, a 43% increase from the $18.4 million in the same period of fiscal 1998. Operating profit of $6.3 million reflected
a 63% increase over the same period in fiscal 1998. Net income for the first quarter was $4.4 million, an increase of 50% compared to net income of $3.0 million for the
first quarter in the prior fiscal year. Net income per share for the first quarter was $0.16 per share on a diluted basis, an increase of 45% compared to net income per

executive officer of Wind River. ''These results confirm the soundness of our strategy, both internally and in the face of competition, the strength of our execution, and
the health of our market,'' Abelmann continued.

Significant Events of the Quarter

Highlights of the quarter included further advances into the consumer electronics, digital imaging and global communications markets. At the JavaOne show in April,
Wind River introduced Tornado(TM) for PersonalJava, a subset of the company's successful Tornado for Java product. With this introduction, PersonalJava -- a Java
application environment targeted at consumer-oriented devices such as PDAs, Internet phones and hand-held terminals -- became available on a commercial real time
operating system for the first time. Wind River now has more than 50 customers using Tornado for Java; joining them this quarter was Audesi Technologies, which plans
to utilize Tornado's Java Virtual Machine support in developing future smart card and electronic cash solutions.

Also in April, Wind River announced Tornado for Digita, part of a platform for building intelligent digital cameras based on FlashPoint Technology's Digita(TM)
operating environment. Eastman Kodak, Minolta and Sharp have already adopted this new imaging platform for future products. Konica -- a leader in the digital imaging
and photographic markets -- this quarter continued its efforts to expand the reach of digital imaging by releasing a next-generation print controller for their digital
printer/copiers built on Wind River's software.

Communications giant Lucent Technologies this quarter selected Wind River as the embedded platform of choice for developing next-generation devices.
