Nasdaq closes 10 points lower on Intel Q2 worries

NEW YORK, May 21 (Reuters) - The Nasdaq Composite Index fell more than 10 points
Thursday as high-technology issues fell amid fear that bellwether Intel Corp. (INTC - news)
would post disheartening second quarter results, traders said.

The index finished off 10.76 points -- or 0.59 percent -- at 1820.99 on volume of 676 million
shares. Declines unofficially led advances 2,446 to 1,893.

Intel shares closed off 2-7/8 at 74-1/8 after a Deutsche Morgan Grenfell analyst said the
chipmaker is seeing a softening of demand during the second quarter and business in Europe
has slowed. Other analysts said recent news reports about looming Federal Trade
Commission action against Intel was also probably making investors nervous.

Among other bellwether technology issues traded on the Nasdaq, Dell Computer Corp (DELL
- news), the most-active Nasdaq issues, lost 4-11/16 to 87-1/16.

Applied Materials Inc (AMAT - news) lost 1-11/16 to 34-1/16 and Cisco Systems Inc
(CSCO - news) lost 7/8 to 77-3/4.

Manugistics Group Inc (MANU - news) lost 8-7/8 to 47-7/8 after an analyst at BT Alex.
Brown made negative comments about the supply chain software maker.
