I have adopted a policy of demanding that for any OTC stock I buy, the broker places my shares into "SAFEKEEPING". This is precisely as effective as having them in my possession. I refuse to let MMs use my own shares against me. I am not claiming that there is a big short position on FNTN, BTW, I have no idea yet and it will take awhile to figure it out even if it is happening.

To answer the last part of your question: it's all over the place. When they short naked they just fill orders with shares they don't have, assuming they can get them later cheaper; they also do everything in their power to make those cheaper prices a reality. Anyone who places a stop loss order on an OTC BB stock under $5 is absolutely BEGGING the MMs to swoop down and steal their shares and then pop the price right back up again. I've been seeing this a lot lately.
