Kevin,

I'll bet this fella ran across some of your earlier writing on the old FBN Associates thread. Your astute stock analysis did wonders for FBN Associates - it was a moonshot, after all!

I confess - I have you Peoplemarked and have learned a lot from your posts. I say you go for it - but demand MONEY!

Kevin: Well, lah de dah ...

I received a similar unsolicited email a few months ago, connected with a different site. So, don't feel so special.

I even talked with the guy (on the phone!) to see what it was all about.

It's a startup financial analysis website trying to gain followers by zeroing in on SI folks who have made informative posts (I don't recall any of yours being anywhere NEAR as informative as mine, though). Theoretically, the poster will comment on various SI threads that they are now the "superstar contributor" on the new site. Presto! Instant site recognition. More clicks on their advertisements. More revenue for the new site owners.

Free webspace and free advertising space didn't clinch it for me, either.

I wonder if the SI gods know that their users' email addresses are being mined by external entities? They probably wouldn't like that too much.

Regards,

TED

Ah, I got one too. I wonder how many people they sent it to. Not very specific, so I wasn't at all sure what they might want from me. A weekly column on black tiger shrimp futures, complete with recipes? I suppose it's an idea.

Did you look at the site itself? Depending on how they plan to do it exactly, it might even be useful. They seem, at least, to be serious. I wondered at first whether it were a joke, and if I'd perhaps end up at, say, Magnetic Diary.
