Not only ATT, but also MCI Sprint and WorldCom are absent from the game. I think most telco are still focusing on the consolidation of local and long distant dominance. McCaw and Motorola are pioneers in the wireless communication. Maybe we should question why Lucent is absent from the game.

This is the excerpt from WSJ, so ATT is in the game.

"Other investors in Teledesic include Microsoft Inc. Chairman Bill Gates, Saudi Arabian Prince Alwaleed bin Taalal bin Abdul-Aziz Alsaud, and AT&T Corp. Teledesic doesn't disclose its finances, but actual cash committed to the project is thought to be below $1 billion."

Thank you Robert. All this makes me wonder whether ATT won't want a piece of the internet satellite pie as well.

They could have been well positioned to do this with their Skynet subsidiary, but they decided to sell that to Loral instead. So, they have few assets in this area right now, I believe.
