Wayne-
I read with interest your strategy. What I think you describe is trading the range of a stock in the direction of it's short term trend. I assume that's what most of us are trying to do. I think you need a stock with a range, to catch it at the extreme opposite of that range, a market/group complexion running with your stock's trend, mental stoploss, good discipline, no big positions coming into the market on the other side AND probably a bazillion other things. With shorts you also need some poor shmuck to buy it from you (hey, some jerk just paid me X for the stock, as it rips up $1 in a second). Try it and tell me if it works.
Nuts no, I've found the holy grail many times but it doesn't seem to work after you start to use it. Maybe I'm nuts though. Good luck!
