<What do you mean about AG's response? Were you there, or did you listen to an audio on the stockholders' meeting? I was there and the answer(s) were the right ones.>

I listened too, and didn't see the "killer app" for more CPU
power. However Grove did show his brilliance by pointing out
that we do not need more bandwidth to drive the need for more
computing power - with less bandwidth the need for data
compression is greater; data compression requires "two jet
engines" one at the source to compress, and one at the
receipent to decompress . . .

Tony - Re: "... why we need fasteer processors."

There is a simple answer to this question.

That answer is another question - "What CPU company is designing SLOW processors for the big volume market?"

The answer to this is -"No company that plans on being in business next year."

What do you mean about AG's response? Were you there, or did you listen to an audio on the stockholders' meeting?

Tony,

Unfortunately, I only got to listen to the audio .... as I recall without listening again AG focused on the video handling, speach recognition, and the multi-language aspects of the PC ... the personal use aspects of the PC. Perhaps I have selective
hearing, but I think a really bullish case can be made for
the need for increased power in workstations and servers as you have
done quite well.

The point I was trying to make was that I see a strong case for
revenue growth in the server market. Intel IS the platform of
choice and should be experiencing significant growth with drivers
like the growth of the internet, the line of platform builders to
adopt Merced, and the convergence of both Unix & NT to Intel
based platforms.

This thread to some extent and the market as a whole tends to focus
on low end PC market, like the guy in the meeting. This view is shortsighted, IMO.
