as a contrarian this is actually bullish. However, sentiment seems to be turning negative which means we could remain w/ a high short interest for a while and it not be bullish IMO. It will, however, prevent a sudden wipeout because of the buying pressure. Looks like a slow decline is in order. Death to put holders and longs alike. We'll have to see.

As for the drillers, yea I dumped mine a month or so ago. I see a mkt disaster coming on. I don't know when, but my guess is sooner rather than later. However, this record short interst doesn't exactly make me comfortable in my belief. The shorts have never gotten it right as far as I know.

Anybody know what the short interest levels were before the Japanese crash of '89-'90?

I'm waiting on the drillers. It may be a while. If the mkt crashes, the economy is going w/ it, and we won't eat thru that excess supply of oil for a while.

Good luck!
