Are you joking about your high-energy laser pistols, Terrence? One problem with guns of any sort being so available in America is that children and teenagers, who have faint concepts of the finality of death, out-of-control hormones, and often a lot of rage, are starting to use them pretty indiscriminately to solve problems that in "olden" days of a few years ago would have been handled with angry words and fist fights, and no fatalities.

One of the points made on the national news tonight is that groups like the NRA are advocating that children be taught how to use guns SAFELY, by going through organized courses designed for them. However, several of the children who have recently massacred their schoolmates had taken these courses. The teenager in Paducah, Kentucky, even put in ear plugs right before he started gunning down the prayer group. Obviously, there is little correlation between gun safety and impulse control in this age group.
