Correct, MVIS is a high-end peripheral

Just as the notebook industry spawned innovation in the peripheral market (think of small portable printers and PCMCIA-connected devices for example) we can expect the blossoming of the wearable market to spawn a wealth of new peripheral devices. Novel display technology, gesture-based input, etc. The real power of opening up a new market like this is the "drag" effect it has on the rest of the industry as folks rush to provide complementary product offerings. This is the sort of synergy that fortunes are made from.

I will mention that the Holy Grail of the wearable industry will fall to the company that figures out a way to eliminate the battery and draw power directly from the wearer (thermal, kinetic, whatever). We're probably several years away from that ideal but folks investing in the area of wearables should keep their eyes open for this development.
