"Kodiak is caught in a vertical bear trap" Could you eloborate?

I'm not a futures trader and was wondering what experienced folk thought about the margin requirement increase for palladium. Today's CRB precious metals story repeats the view of one trader that the increase in deposit requiremenst has "squeezed" everybody out of the market and caused the price to fall.

"NYMEX had raised the margins so high theyv'e squeezed everybody out of the palladium market"

I was wondering what the justification for such market intervention would be. Does this always aid the short side of teh tug of war? What would the justification be for requiring a higher deposit than a the contract is worth to stay long a commodity?

Wasn't aware that NYMEX reserved the right to do that.
