I talked with my installer yesterday. He came out to install a 3rd receiver on my system and I asked him about the satellite.

Now, I'm not sure I believe everything he stated, but I'll pass it along.

He explained that one of the solar panels did not deploy and thus does not have full power. They said that they could still operate all of the transponders on the satellite with the other panel, but that the satellite would only last about half its life cycle. The other option is to run half of the transponders and use it for west coast locals.

EchoStar has filed a claim with their insurance company. It is possible that they can get the panel detached.
