I agree that Japan is a problem, but I think it could be misleading if you keep watching Japan directly on equipment sales. Be careful to watch Taiwan. Many Japanese companies are addressing their problems by forming joint ventures in Taiwan. Japanese provide intellectual property and the Taiwanese provide funding and labor. The Koreans look West for competitive threat. Of course how long will the Taiwanese need the Japanese is for a (much later) post.

This stock is dead money until late 98

If you go back before the run to the high 20's you'll find a fair amount of "dead money" discussion. As often as it occurs, people forget that semi and semi equip stocks tend to move on long time horizons. The stocks typically move up when the present situation looks terrible in anticipation of a major long-term improvement down the road. This will likely happen for CYMI once the current negative sentiment on the stock plays out. I would guess sooner rather than later.
