BusinessWire, Friday, May 22, 1998 at 10:47

HOLLYWOOD, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--May 22, 1998--Emerging
Company Report, the nationally syndicated television program that
profiles emerging-growth companies (http://www.emergingcompany.com),
features an interview with Dr. Alfred Sapse, chief executive officer
of Steroidogenesis Inhibitors International (OTC/BB:STGI) and the
developer of the Anticort drug.
Recent announcements of possible cancer breakthroughs have
brought attention to companies like Genentech (NYSE:GNE), Entremed
(NASDAQ:ENMD) and Abbott Labs (NYSE:ABT). Anticort is an anti-cortisol
(i.e., steroidogenesis inhibitor) drug that prevents and treats the
deadly immunosuppressive effects of elevated cortisol.
When Sapse first began to evaluate Anticort's therapeutic
potential, AIDS and Alzheimer's presented themselves as the two
diseases most likely to be responsive. Due to the rapid spread of
AIDS, and the immense suffering associated with the fatal disease,
Sapse decided to initially focus on HIV-positive patients.
A preliminary study of 60 HIV-positive patients in Brazil found
Anticort to be effective in increasing CD4 (immune cell) counts and
drastically reducing mortality. After submitting a comprehensive
clinical program, STGI has received Food and Drug Administration
approval (IND 52,663) to begin clinically testing Anticort on
HIV-positive patients under a Phase IB/IIA setting.
Also being interviewed on this week's program is Richard
Verdiramo, director of marketing with Beacon Light Holding Corp.
(OTC/BB:BLHG). Beacon Light Holding has entered into a joint venture
agreement with Pinnacle International Inc. and the XIN HUI Orient
Light Industries Inc., to produce a variety of plastic products in
China's Guangdong Province.
With a population in excess of 65 million people, Guangdong
Province enjoys a free enterprise system very similar to that of the
Western Hemisphere. The factory previously only produced writing pens
with production capacity of 400 million units per year, translating to
more than $60 million in sales.
However, the plastic injection molds can be adapted to produce a
variety of plastic products that allows for flexibility and
diversification in product line.
Other companies discussed on this week's program include:
Advanced Engine Technologies Inc. (OTC/BB:AENG), a Colorado
company that owns the U.S. rights to promote and market a
revolutionary new internal combustion engine, known as the OX-2.
The company Thursday announced a joint venture agreement with
Carroll Shelby, legendary automotive designer, famous for the Shelby
Ford (NYSE:F) Mustang, to develop the OX-2 engine for use in hybrid
electric vehicles. Shelby granted an exclusive interview to Emerging
Company Report to discuss the venture.
HomeCom Communications Inc. (NASDAQ:HCOM) is an Internet-based
Web design and hosting company whose clients include the CIA and Time
Warner (NYSE:TWX). Touted as one of the top 20 Internet companies,
HomeCom joins companies like America Online (NYSE:AOL) and Excite
(NASDAQ:XCIT), making news on Wall Street lately.
Emerging Company Report is seen Friday evenings at 11 p.m. ET, 8
p.m. PT, and again on Sunday morning at 11:30 a.m. ET, 8:30 a.m. PT on
140 cable TV systems nationwide. The program is also broadcast
"On-Demand" at its Web site, emergingcompany.com.
