Japan largest creditor nation for 7th straight yr ------------------------------------------------------------------------ Japan remained the world's largest creditor nation for the seventh straight year in 1997 as its overseas assets continued to swell, a government report said Friday. Japan's net external assets at the end of 1997 -- those held by the Japanese government and businesses abroad minus their liabilities -- stood at 124,587 billion yen ($929.7 billion, up 20.5% from a year earlier, the report said.
