George,
<<am wondering if I should just whack the stock , take my 3,000 loss and be done,,btw that loss is substantial for me..>>

I am bearish on the sector and have been for a long time. Suggest you address the question to Stitch, Mark, Jon Bird, Mark Oliver, tom pope, Tom and many others on DD sector thread.
Frankly, I don't know where everyone stands right now although I get the feeling most are expecting a slow but steady recovery in the sector and stock prices.
I don't but I've been bearish for so long I really don't count anymore.

Yogi

George, these are a few of my favorite rationalizations ...

SEG is getting hammered, but remember that some portion of the downward curve is "artificially induced" by big position holders who can sit on the ask and ride the price down, and by "fearful dumpers" who act on the very emotions you are expressing.

1. Seagate ain't gonna fold. I think we can all agree on that point.
2. If it can't climb out of this hole, it might as well fold.
3. Ergo, it will climb out of this hole. QED.

The market is nothing if not forward looking (though myopic). It has already factored in your concerns. Now it is shaking out the loose change.

Shugart is saying the waves of "future bad news" are over. IMO that means short-selling will slow, and selling will dry up. Even if buying is not enthusiastic, it will dominate. IMO the market wants SEG to turn around (there are so few good buys out there).

This is the low point in the cycle (admittedly a particularly "deep" cycle).

Techs in general are getting hammered.

Enough rationalizations for you?

P.S. Do I see a true bounce at 22 1/16?

George, the high techs are all getting hit hard right now. Remember the Asian scare, how people sold and sold and sold because they were scared. The high techs rebounded then and will rebound in the future. Ask yourself this question. If you didn't own Seagate, would you buy it at this price ? I think if you sell right now after this stock has been dropping for 4-5 days and right before a holiday weekend, you might regret it. I am also down, I bought at 26 1/4, thanx to my broker. If I didn't own Seagate, I would think about buying in at this price. I am looking into doubling my position, but will wait until I feel a bottom is reached. I will wait until the stock closes above where it opens.
