Fast forward....

Wash, DC, May 19,00 -- The Justice Department today filed suit against
Netscape to force them to include the Microsoft Windows operating system with its Navigator browser.

Since Microsoft was forced to include Navigator with its Windows 98 operating system two years ago, Netscape has developed its own operating system, called Net2You, leading to the loss of market share to Windows. Netscape was able to use the royalty from Microsoft of Redmond, Wash, to hire away its top programmers, and create a compatible operating system in record time. Critics of Microsoft say that if Justice prevails, it will stiffle competition and lead to higher prices.

Microsoft, who ousted chairman Bill Gates last year after the stock dropped from $90 per share two years ago, to less than $12 last week said the action was necessary to avoid the layoff of more workers. Microsoft has laid off over 20,000 workers since 1998. Washington State senator Starbuck, has vowed a trade war with Utah if the Justice Department does not conclude this case soon.

Jim Barksdale, president of Netscape, refused to comment on rumors that it was working on an office software suite, but commented that the Justice action was an unnecessary intrusion into private business. "This is like Dr Pepper being required to include three cans of Sprite with each six-pack."
