I have seen at least 9-11 different MM's lined up on NXTL at any given time. It would have to a mutual agreement to manipulate the market. It just doesnt work the way most people seem to think it does.

If a stock has selling pressure , the stock will go down, no evil schemes here. However they will capitalize on a given situation always to their advantage, either up or down.

"Why would they single out Nextel - how many market makers does Nextel have (4?)?"

I'm talking about the way the NASDAQ market works. They don't single out NXTL but there are times when it's obvious that an auction market like the NYSE is the way to go. Now is one of those times for Nextel. "NASDAQ - the market for the next 100 years" is a great slogan but it's designed to hide the FACT that NASDAQ has a BASIC, FUNDAMENTAL difference from an auction market like the NYSE. NASDAQ is designed to enrich the market makers, not the customers. At least on the NYSE the customer has a fighting chance.

I agree. I've been told that there are about 50 Nextel market makers. Arnie seems to be saying that there is a big conspiracy among a whole lot of people to push the price lower. I don't ususally buy conspiracy theories especially when the conspiracy needs to include so many people! With the gigantic float that Nextel has, 50 market makers, lots of attention from Wall Street and Main Street, the price can not be easily manipulated (IMHO). Prices might get manipulated in situations where the float is small and a very few individuals can influence supply and demand. That is not the situation with Nextel.
