If Viagra is pulled, the people that have PUTS on PFE will make a fortune.

What we're talking about here is a dangerous drug interaction, not a dangerous drug per se. There's hardly a drug in the PDR that doesn't have one or other adverse reaction linked to it, some of which are pretty scary. Prozac, f'rinstance, and that's only one among many. Look up what MAO inhibitors can do to you in conjunction with other drugs. And they haven't been pulled.

This doesn't mean that the Lerak's of this world won't go after Viagra like a pack of hounds.

Anyway, I've always thought the FDA's role, in the case of drugs that aren't inherently dangerous or have bad social consequences, should be limited to evaluating the drug's effectiveness and publicizing the adverse effects, leaving it to the patient to make an informed decision with the advice and help of his/her physician.

John,
I think you are right in that it is a possibility, but at this point that is all it is. I wouldn't go so far as to call it probable nor would I encourage anybody to consider that as a reason to buy the stock. (I am not implying that I think you would, by the way, I am just throwing it out there.) Again, there are going to be more deaths among people using PFE than people using Prosac (not counting intentional deaths) because of the age group and medical conditions of the patient. Just because somebody dies while using Viagra doesn't mean Viagra was responsible for the death. With 200k+ people taking this drug a week, most 50+ years old (just a guess), one of them is bound to die of natural causes. (God, that didn't sound so good. I apoligize.) Trying to pin the death on Viagra might be hard, but I have no idea. I'll pass that buck to our resident doctors. The next few weeks/months will be very telling for our beloved VVUS. I hope it is good.

Standing erect,
Colby

<<<If there was even one death or near death during clinical trials, this drug would NEVER have made it
to market. It's only because FDA already approved it that they are reluctant to pull the plug so quickly,
and have egg on their face.>>>

Please get your facts straight before you make comments like the one above. The clinical trials of Viagra did involve a number of deaths, but none were ever proven to be linked to Viagra. Everone should be clear on the fact that Viagra is targeted at an already diseased (cardiovascular disease, diabetes etc...) population and hence it is not unexpected to see some deaths. Lets keep this in perspective, Asprin kills and 1000s each year due to bleeding ulcers. Drug side effects are nothing new.
