I agree, Holly, that parenting is certainly not the sole cause of deviant behavior! There are some who were just born to be bad, or who have character weaknesses or tendencies that no amount of good parenting will be able to correct.
But I would argue that good parenting is the most important ingredient in producing a child who is compassionate, involved and hopeful. THat while it is possible for a child to succeed without it, it is in spite of the lack. I believe that involved, caring parents are critical to the mental health of our society and that it's the breakdown of the family coupled with a technological world that is cold and often incomprehensible that has created so many lost children.
But sure, some kids are just little monsters.
