The proposed solution was as follows. Marry massive disk drive server farms (which have become very cheap and are dropping in price per terabyte very rapidly) at first ISP router sites across the country with satellite point to multipoint transmissions to those same points. This is what the @HOME network originally planned. (In fact, that may still be what they are planning. Don't know if they plan to use GEO distribution, though.) If you like this idea, you might want to look at them (ATHM I believe is their ticker). Qwest and Level 3 are laying backbone pipe like crazy, but I don't think its going to be enough. I see big money for Loral Orion! :) Dragonfly
