Well, while you guys have been talking about fish, I've been getting some info on how CKFR views the VISA deal. And my worries have been eased.

I am told by a person I trust:

1) The Visa deal gives CKFR REAL-TIME debit capability it didn't have before, based on VISA's checkcard debit connections. This is already in place at many banks and is scalable -- meaning it can be ramped up to huge volume easily. This is attractive to merchants, as it means guaranteed funds availability. (Even CKFR checks can bounce, apparently.) Debit and credit are effective in the same cycle.

2) CKFR gets NO payments by merchants at present (a point I had missed). Only from banks and/or check-writing customers. So this deal represents a new revenue stream which CKFR will share 50%. (CKFR also feels it will get them eventually to 85% electronic payment, meaning increased efficiencies.)

3) Pete Kight really does feel it's a great deal for CKFR, even if he didn't say so in the release. And that's good enough for me.

And now, back to your regular Tuna programming.
