Arnie, thanks for your views. I'm trying to reason this scenario (MM's) the whole way through. You've given me some more to consider. One loose string, still, at this point: when the market maker sets the bid, he also sets the ask - and the spread can't be too phenomenal. So, if the market thought the ask (now below $24) was fair, buyers would rush in and push the price up. Or not?

I think that NASDAQ MM's have contributed to the speed of the decline. Clearly there have been sellers but I'll bet the MM's are on the short side pushing it down.

It's a conspiracy, man!

I don't think so. NXTL is going down for a reason, and it will keep sliding until the reason becomes news. At that time, the stock will either plunge, or make a bottom, or both.

Adventurous types - the kind who enjoy catching a falling knife - might want to nibble at the old support level of $22 in hope that it holds.

Not to mention the stop limits that they blew through.

IN the old days the MM's used to be the only ones making the market, but not today, today you have active SOES traders who have wonderfull features such as ISLD, ARCA,TONTO , I can be the best bid or best offer if i so chose. I have out bid GOLDMAN SACS many times to buy this stock.

With holiday weekend upon us alot of market makers moved their bids and offers way outside the market, im sure they didnt even expect it to get to them. When the selling came in this morning , the active MM's simply moved below the guys who hadnt update or were outside and waited for the sells to trigger the decline. IMO. Because of the depressed sentiment im sure they also looked at the stop limit orders and said what the heck lets take her down. That's the advantage they have, seeing all the orders.

Nasdaq doesnt need upticks to sell short
Isnt it just the opposite: the nasdaq needs an uptick but not NYSE to sell short?
