Sorry Alan. I was suffering from excessive contextual recall. I wouldn't know, I'd guess Dell does better than Gateway mostly because Dell is (relatively) more business oriented, Gateway more consumer/home oriented. Business is where the money is (and most of the unit voluem), and the home/consumer market probably gets hit more by the "cheap PC" wave.

That's just a guess though, I'd say the PC hardware business is a pretty tough one these days for everyone. Last time I priced out parts, you could break under $500 for a 233 K6 system, probably as fast as anything you could buy 18 months ago. (cheesy video, but I can do without quake) Putting the parts together is pretty low tech, I've never had a problem, and I've never been a hardware guy. I gotta go check what Dell & Gateway are selling these days.
