Well, those old dusty rusty standards and those old boring companies might not be that unattractive. Comparing two companies with currently the same market cap, namely GM and DELL, I rather bet my money on the 700000 employees at GM and not on the 16000 strong crew at Dell. At GM you get a P/E of 8, plenty of cash and the whole automotive business basically for free. And what opportunities to cut cost and spin out sections of the companies. (Which worked so nicely with Ford !!)

At Dell you have a book value of $2, zillions of outstanding options, a market turning cut-throat commodity. Also who would BUY A COMPANY WHOSE CEO JUST APPEARED ON THE COVER OF FORTUNE MAGAZINE ? That never is a good sign. So all the best of luck to the religious Dell believers on this board !!!
