This is a semantic noodge, but killing one person doesn't make a massacre. Murder, yes. So this drops the massacre count to three.

My treatise on what to do about this state of affairs just went up at Rambi. In a word: if violence is the problem, attack violence first. Deal with root causes later. Why not sooner? because we don't agree on what the causes are. And then we have Yet Another political football while the violence goes largely unchecked.

Getting rid of every gun in America? That was a hypothetical argument on my part. I was playing Devil's Advocate. I'll accede to total gun ban under one condition: Cops first. Let's write a law stating that cops may not use firearms in the pursuit of their jobs, on dity or off. Then and only then would I agree to relinquishing my legally-held arms.
Why do I say this? Because asking civilians to give up their guns while leaving the police armed (and thus tacitly admitting that they need them ) is hypocritical.
