Ericsson Wins Order Valued At $300 Million For TDMA/D-AMPS Wireless
Network in Brazil

STOCKHOLM, Sweden--(BUSINESS WIRE)--May 22, 1998--Ericsson has been selected by ATL- Algar Telecom Leste S.A., the
winner of the concession area for Rio de Janeiro and Espirito Santo, to be the sole supplier for B-Band digital wireless infrastructure.
The awarded turnkey project is valued at $300 million.

The wireless infrastructure will be TDMA, D-AMPS IS-136 technology. TDMA-based systems are the most advanced and wide spread
digital wireless technologies in the world, being adopted by all B-Band operators in Brazil.

''Ericsson was selected based on the excellence of the commercial and technical conditions, as well as the proven national and
international experience in digital wireless communications.'' Says Mr. Carlos Henrique Moreira, CEO of Algar Telecom Leste.

Rio de Janeiro and Vitsria will be the first cities in Brazil to benefit from the new digital wireless services that Algar will provide.

There are approximately 80 million subscribers using D-AMPS/AMPS networks worldwide. D-AMPS was the first technology to be
commercially available as a dual-band (800/1900 MHz) and dual-mode (analog/digital) technology. Over 11 million subscribers are
already using D-AMPS digital services.
