Win 98 Gold Is Alive And Running

Techweb : techweb.com

.....the real net gain is improved stability, an operating system that works better out of the box with all kinds of hardware, and a Windows that is much smarter about helping users prevent and solve many common kinds of problems, including setup obstacles, crash protection, and start-up problems.
That is topped off with an all new and far more efficient setup routine and Win 98's ability to update itself online. Win 98 is not
the reliability champion NT is, but it clearly bests Win 95 in that regard. And that is reason enough to upgrade.

Franz has the multimonitor feature correct...

I've seen 4 monitors working.

"win98 really has a very different features comparing to win95"

I has all the features of Windows95, IE and more at the same price low price as Win95.

Aren't monopolies supposed to raise prices once they lock you in?

Yeah, both Lee (7854) and Niebucc (7855) have it right.

Win95 has some stability problems and it was the first time they tried this interface. I know it doesn't sound like much but a more stable OS really does matter.

It's good to hear someone has seen 4 monitors running - if you do a lot of business the extra monitors really mean a lot.

There have been a lot of surveys done that show businesses intend to stick with the WinXX line as long as possible. They intend to upgrade. The garbage you hear in the press is just that. Typist, I mean Reporters, copying each other's story.

Why people want to upgrade and stay with WinXX:

1) Multiple monitors.

2) Increased OS stability.

3) Tighter integration with the web (ultimate intention is to treat the web as a big LAN so you can map the drive or web page of anyone on the web and treat it just like your local hard drive).

4) WinXX has Exchange built in so you can receive and send Faxes electronically (NT charges big time for it).

5) Ability to handle old cards - I have a 16 bit ISA card attached to a scanner - NT will not recognize it.

6) WinXX is cheaper than NT.

I bet any amount of money that 10 million copies will be sold before this time next week (2 million already gone)! Win98 will easily outsell Win95.
