Bill, I'm sure you can understand that I have trouble understanding why an elected official would say something that might well get him booted right out of office.

On the other hand, rapes and muggings are violent and terrifying, but do not deserve the death penalty unless the victim is killed, according to the system of justice we have at the moment. Of course, everyone has the right to defend themselves, not really knowing the full intent of the criminal who is attacking them. One of the Democrats running for governor in California, Al Checchi, says he wants the death penalty for rapists and child molesters, because they kill the spirits of their victims. Do you agree with that reasoning?
