Well I am amazed at your patients Addi. I still think Sun is a great buy at these levels considering most techies are trading at very high PEs. I also think Unix is still alive and well even though Wall St. doesn't believe this. The one thing about Sun is that they aren't running scared of MS and that should give any company interested in using Unix a clear message that Sun is your solution. HP is a good example of how they are playing on the fence with Unix and nt. Now the question I would ask is HP losing Unix customers due to the fact NT is not there and who is picking up these customers ?

If Sun can grab other Unix vendors customers that are playing on the fence then that just adds to Sun's EPS.

I like this move by Sun.

Sun Backs Linux Group

Bolzern said Linux enjoys a great deal of support from developers who are writing new code for the platform, and that could benefit Sun. "Linux won't threaten [Sun]," he said. "The enemy is Microsoft. What Sun and others are doing by joining Linux International is coalescing around something strong enough to be the fastest growing OS today."

Tom Henkel, a senior analyst with the Gartner Group, an IT research firm, said Sun will gain some goodwill by this move, but more importantly, it shores up the anti-NT troops. "Anything that is anti-NT is a good thing from Sun's perspective, particularly if it doesn't encourage Sun's competitors," he said.

I think the next big step for Linux is to get a major computer vendor to bundle it. The only problem is that MS controls them so now we need the DOJ to speed up the case against MS.
