IBM's PowerPC in PCI (Intel) bus - not mentioned in Bus. Week

Part of Gerster's optimism . PLX will use IBM PowerPC RISC CPU for new ASCI (Application Specific) I/O adapters :

" The proliferation of PCI in embedded host
systems and I/O adapter designs has led to the
rapid growth of designs based on ,b>distributed
processing architectures including dedicated RISC
CPUs for I/O processing and hardware-supported
message passing on PCI for software protocol
control, ...

The new chip was designed using the IBM Blue
Logic Core + ASIC Program. "The PLX IOP480
is an example of how customers can use IBM Blue
Logic technology to rapidly bring core-based
system-on-a-chip ASIC designs to market to
provide specific application solutions,"

said Elliott Newcombe, marketing manager for IBM
Microelectronics. "

Brings "Network Centric" processing to IBM's super-servers front door.
