Hey guys, there are a few people who post here who's opinions I really respect, I won't give names.
Here is a question off of the AOL board which pertains to another stock but the situation could come up anywhere. Anyone who has come across this before, would you let us know your opinion?
Here's the question/problem:
A stock is suspected of being shorted big time. In an attempt to put a stop to this, the company has announced a name and trading symbol change to take effect in about 6 weeks.
The company has asked that everyone call their brokers and have their certificates mailed to them. This in effect takes the certs out of circulation.
I have been told that the process of changing the name forces the shorters to cover as each share must be accounted for on the day the name change takes effect. Many of us have been told by brokers that the brokerage house handles everything and calling for certs is unnecessary.
I for one don't relish the thought of having my shares in processing just in case I wanted to sell them. This could cause a delay with penny stocks I understand.
One other point here, the company has announced they are issuing warrants to shareholders. This is another troubling point for some. Could this be affected by not calling for the certs?
Bottom line question is, does anyone think it's necessary to call for the certs, and is there any possibility of losing anything if one doesn't?
I believe it makes no difference but we'd like hear from anyone who has experienced something like this in the past or has positive answers.
Thanks in advance
Randy
