Yes Michael. I am sure that you have seen plenty in 11 years. It is truly amazing just how much one can actually absorb in such a short time. But, I think you might have "forgotten a few scenes" and maybe you would benefit if you "watched a few re-runs"!!!!
Michael, there is little point in putting that silly hat on and dangling that pipe from your mouth whilst playing Sherlock. I told you once before that I do not have the "drilling background" that you suggested was obvious. Similarly, I do not have the "production engineering" background which you now suggest is also obvious. I guess my "obvious background" comes with years and years of making mistakes with some pretty damn good drilling and production engineers. The only other thing that I will admit to wrt my background is that I do not have the "field" process experience that you do.
By the way, your recently attempted "trap" was not at all nice. Do your own work Michael!! Don't try to get Greg Novell to do it for you!!!! I think that you should explain what you tried to do to me to all other threadsters. Naughty boy!!
For you to tell me that my integrity is not as important as yours because I use a pseudonym is yet further evidence that you just do not think before you open that trap of yours. Do you think that NOBODY knows who grayhairs is in real life? Well, my kids do. My wife does. My parents do. My sister's entire family does. All of my in-laws do. Most of my relatives do. My secretary does. Friends in Toronto and in Phoenix do. These are the people that matter the most to me Michael!! These are the people that I preserve my integrity for!! I don't give a shit if my integrity is slandered in front of you. I do when it is in front of them!!
Michael, for the very last time I have a few things to say to you about pseudonyms. IF my messages have ANY credibility whatsoever, it is because of the message and not because of the pseudonym. Would my message change if suddenly I logged in as A.B.C., or as Bill S., or as Charlie, or as O.J.Simpson? Would any of those handles give my messages more or less credibility?? (O.K., I do admit that the O.J.Simpson one would probably add something simply because of his football background!!) Do you really believe that your messages would have more credibility if they were issued under the pseudonym of "whitehairs"??
In my career I have had many fine young engineers work for me and I received countless memos from them filled with all sorts of very well researched recomendations. But, when I received those memos/reports I did not just "blindly" accept the messages because I knew the messengers, Michael. If the message made sense, then fine. But, whenever something didn't seem just quite right I'd ask questions. And you know what, sometimes (for sure not always) we found some little thing that was wrong or overlooked. No problem. We just touched things up and got on with our business. That's what we need to do here Michael.
Throwing out a real name, an e-mail address, a phone number, a company name, a city, a job description, etc. does not assure credible and trustworthy messages. We had all of that and much more with Bre-X, Michael. Hell, we even had those Press Releases that you cherish and covenant so damn much. BUT, WHERE'S THE GOLD, MICHAEL??
Michael, you pick up a coin and you see only one side. Turn it over once in a while. Look at the other side. Ask yourself little questions (What am I missing? What other options are there? Is there any other reason for that?). It is absolutely amazing how much you can see and learn if you get the blinders out of the way. You look at my pseudonym and you say I'm hiding. Well, I'm not hiding. I'm just preserving my privacy. There is a difference Michael. If I was hiding, I wouldn't be here!!
Since "personal recognition" and "accolades" are of absolutely no interest to ME, the many cons of revealing my I.D. far exceed any pros I see. Hence, I have opted for a pseudonym. In your own case, there are at least four issues that I'm sure you did not reflect upon when you chose to expose yourself "stark naked" on S.I.. Well, to each his own. Myself, I will continue to evaluate the messages and not the messengers.
TRIVIAL INFORMATION: I have reviewed the profiles of all threadsters on this thread. At the time of my review, 45 threadsters had posted 489 messages here. Of the 45 profiles involved, there are only 4 which are "complete" (including yours Michael). There are 17 threadsters that use pseudonyms or else use names (real?? who knows??) but WITHOUT additional identifying data (Eg. Company, Location, e-mail). There are 18 threadsters that use pseudonyms or else use names (real?? who knows??) but do give their e-mail address (This is potentially identifying data via "hacking", if not otherwise). There are 6 profiles that give more than name/pseudonym and e-mail but are not totally complete (Eg. no company, or no location).
Now, take this info just one tiny step further and assume that in order for a message to be deemed "credible" it must be issued by an individual who has completed his profile in full, and it must be sent to an individual who has completed his profile in full. Well, with that criteria (ie. all threadsters must have complete profiles) there have been NO CREDIBLE posts on this thread!!!! Rather interesting, I thought.
Michael, I have not yet left the ring. But, you are very perceptive when you suggest that I may have to throw in the towel. I might. My problem is an engineering oath that I took over 30 years ago. I still know it Michael. And, I still believe in it even if I am not a registered nor practicing professional engineer today. Perhaps you should refresh your memory, too.
In my mind, I can see you very clearly -- flat on your back on the canvas, toes pointing to the heavens and your eyes showing only white!! All I have to do is throw a few punches (Not just the glancing jabs!)
Michael, It is ironic as hell that YOU are challenging ME for "hiding behind a pseudonymn"!!! I CAN'T GET AT YOU BECAUSE YOU ARE NOT BEHIND A PSEUDONYMN!!! If you were, Hell I would have thrown my punches long ago and everyone would be looking at you there on the canvas (STILL!!!). But, you are not. You are real. You have an identity. You are Michael M. Cubrilo. You live in Airdrie and you work for Crestar. You have a couple of very young kids (5 & 7) and you enjoy camping, fishing and popping cans with a 22 calibre. Why should I humble and embarrass you in front of others? Why should I damage your credibility in front of your neighbors, your co-workers, your family, etc.?? What does that accomplish for me? Does winning this stupid debate really matter or mean anything to me? Is it worth the "harm" that I would inflict upon a "real person"? A young fellow engineer that still has quite a bit to learn, (even though he has come a long way to date)?? Can I do it, given the oath I took 30 years ago?
Michael, I have had a 7 page response ready to fire out at you for over 3 days now. But I can't air it publicly as it is. I have the options of (1) editing it and airing only parts [in which case you only get "cut up a bit" and it makes me look petty], (2) sending it all to you via private e-mail, or (3) throwing in the towel. I haven't decided yet what I will ultimately do. I am leaning towards the later.
Michael, please DO BE VERY CAREFUL as to what "buttons you push" until I decide which way I am going. I can have all 7 pages on the air in a couple of minutes!! And, do not talk to me about ego. We are all very small players in the scheme of things but apparently only some of us recognize that!!!
I have NOTHING to fear from regulatory bodies or securities firms. Let them scrutinize. Perhaps they'll catch a few "faux pas" and rap a few knuckles. Like guys that are not licensed or certified to provide investment advise yet tell others to sell off 70% of their holdings in a security!!!
Later, grayhairs |
