No I think you are right... I just researched the SEC on this and this is what I came up with...

shareholder of record = The name of an individual or entity that an issuer (A company or municipality offering, or having already offered, securities for sale to investors) carries in its records as the registered (Having formally submitted a document to, and received approval for a specific activity from, the appropriate official or authority) holder, not necessarily the beneficial (the individual who enjoys the benefits of owning a security or property, regardless of whose name the title is in) owner of the issuer's securities. dividends and other distributions are paid only to shareholders of record.

Another words if you buy the P regarless of the method and you hold in in your account you are a shareholder of recoard. Of course you can sell it the next day I guess.
