I was out at the stores today looking to buy a new computer. Compaq is selling a Pentium II 266MHZ machine for $1299 w/o monitor. I can buy a 17" Compaq montior for $499. The total is $1930 including tax. On Dell's homepage a Pentium II 266MHZ costs almost $2000 dollars (DO I have to pay sales tax?). Sure its got a little more memory (64 vs 48), and the harddrive is bigger, but who really needs that? I certainly don't. Plus, Compaq's machine comes with a DVD drive and roughly $200-$300 worth of software for free.

Am I missing something here? Where's Dell's huge price advantage?
