I am not arguing Meat's basic point around total cost of ownership, which is valid. I am disagreeing with the conclusion that somehow this will be a justification for rapid uptake of new technology

If you agree with Meathead's point, then I contend that the lowered cost of ownership ought to be the driving point behind the purchasing decision. Computers are no different than any other item used by businesses. They are bought as solutions for certain pre-defined problems. A prudent manager always seeks to minimize his costs. Like I said to Mr. Aloha, I'm available <VBG>.
