All: The Mac magazines are in trouble and they will always be behind. They subsist on advertising. With the failure of so many small Apple developers, the ad money isn't there right now. As the Mac sales continue to increase, the developers will move back to the Mac platform and will then be advertising more. I think it could take some time. Development of products takes some time. But after the products are developed the ads will return and there will be more Mac magazines again.

Off Topic: Answer from soup... "Trash the Finder preferences." Thanks, All.

Linda, What a clever virus you have. It does just that one funny thing??
Years ago on dos there was a virus that came out of hiding when you typed an executable file like:

win <return>
as soon as you hit return a small demone came onto the screen and grabbed the last letter and took it away(in this case the 'n') and then the error message "bad file name" came out.
The only way to run was to add any extra letter to an exe.

I wonder if a funny mac virus that does that funny little taks has been made. It is like the word macro viruses in a way.

Here is another topic from a fast stock buy group I am in.
What do you make of it??

TO ALL MEMBERS.....

Please go immediately to the site below for the
incredible news .

maccentral.com

Check this link out........ the story was leaked by the

media.... they had
the directors of THW up all last night editing the
story, they said they
would run it with or without verification...... also
get this MacWeek is
running a story about this in their Monday issue.

Maccentral readership (internet hits) is 120,000 people

per day,
Macweek readership is over 1,000,000 per issue.

The company will be issuing the first of many press
releases on
Monday.

This recent HUGE news regarding Totally Hip Software
THW-ASE
took me by surprise with regards to its magnitude. They

are due to have
over 10 newspapers across Canada and the United States
publish incredible
articles about them over the next two weeks. MacCentral

was the first to
leak the story of their new technology - the story went

out Friday night.
Macweek is also going to run an article in their Monday

edition.
This should boost the stock Tuesday morning as well.

Apple has hopes of selling many versions of this new
product,
which would increase THW's revenues substantially for
'99.
The code name Avenger software that is touched on in
these articles is said to be the best technology to
date from ANY
company in this field. THW's new software also has
Vector Graphics and
Bit map which NOBODY has done with this type.

We are informed that their will be numerous press
releases out from the
media as well as the company in the upcoming weeks and
see this as a
VERY exciting near and long term buy (my opinion only).

These current
developments are said to increase THW's share price
astronomically, on
immediate impact and future earnings forecasted.

Publications in the states were so excited to print
these developments
that they were going to print with or without THW's
permission.
MacCentral explained that it was too huge a story not
to run it
immediately.

This will be our ONLY pick next week as it is
BLOCKBUSTER and offers
enormous potential.

"My" opinion is that the stock price should be
drastically higher by the end of next week.

Off Topic: Troubleshooting a Mac problem and wondered if any of you had any ideas? Or possible relevant links? When the Maccer tries to change the name of a folder the cursor moves to a different folder after a few characters are typed -- it's impossible to complete the name of a folder in the Finder. This doesn't happen in other applications. I was able to type a letter in Word without a problem.

Looks like soup beat me to the answer, but a good suggestion it is (delete Finder prefs). For weird problems that happen only in one application, pref files and extension conflicts are the likely culprits. Viruses are a much less likely cause, especially on the Mac, but with the recent hoopla surrounding macro viruses and the Autostart Worm, I may have to buy some virus software myself.

With my sister's wedding less than a week away, all the relatives in town and the festivities have kept me away from SI more than usual.
