I predict this concept will gain momentum. I can not see it with telephones, too slow. I think it would work well with web hosting sites. Is there an investment play? Would it be in supporting hardware, security software, or web hosting sites?

I seem to recall Intel and SBC were either doing this currently or in the near future. Seems that the Intel deal would also enable you to get answers to computer problems. (does this sound like something Intel would be getting into?, maybe my memory is going and it is another company).

I would ask, what is the backup sites stake in it? That is,
if you lose your critical backup data, what does the vendor
lose? If it's not comparable, and if it doesn't actually
compensate you for your loss, than I wouldn't touch it
myself. Perhaps others would do so. I can (barely)
imagine corporate entities doing it with sufficient
guarantees. But if I were in the business myself (heaven
forbid), I'd charge that much more for the bond. Seems
to me unless the scale were very large, or you were willing
to kiss off your valuable data if the vendor crashed,
went broke, went to mexico, lost his system programmer,
etc., etc., then the cost for an individual would be
prohibitive. This doesn't begin to mention the possibilites
for compromise of private data.
